More than two decades ago a cowboy sat down to share a casual
evening with friends. Ron Scott had successfully ridden the pro
rodeo circuit as a steer wrestler for over 20 years. As a successful
businessman, Ron had also created a prosperous world for
himself in the Calgary marketplace. That evening, an idea was
born that captivated this modern-day cowboy and businessman
and inspired him to become a philanthropist. Ron wanted to
bring together the friends that he had met in both his business
world and in his cowboy world for a party that would generate
money to give back to kids and families in the community. This
party became known as the Big Hearted Cowboys – Meet the
Stampede Stars Charity Event.
Big Hearted Cowboys has grown substantially since then and
to date has raised more than $2 million for children’s charities
in Calgary. In the early years, the event provided much needed
revenue for the Between Friends Club, Boys and Girls Clubs
and the Southern Alberta Variety Club. From 2002-2016 event
proceeds were used to fund various programs at Hull Services,
affecting the lives of more than 2,000 kids in southern Alberta.
In 2017 Ron passed the torch of Big Hearted Cowboys to his
son, Monte Scott. Determined to continue the legacy, Monte has
taken the reigns and partnered with Community Kitchens and
KidSport Calgary with a goal this year of raising over $150,000.
Ron and Monte, give generously of their time and their resources
to help kids and families achieve success in their lives!
